Well, there actually are people clever enough to attack you while you're in Dark Illusion, but you should be alright while you are moving around instead of standing in one place while you're in DI. But you shouldn't worry about that too much because there aren't many people that can do that. Just remember that if you're in DI, it doesn't mean that you are completely safe.
